About the Book

Wages and Related Issues: A Critical Appraisal of the News Media Industry in India probably the first of its kind empirical work in the country that has enquired into the state of wages and working condition of working journalists in India in a historical perspective and the sudden change that came like a thunderbolt with the passing of the new Labour Codes in the parliament in 2019-20. The study could not have been taken at a better time, when the new labour codes were passed amidst a huge hue and cry within and outside parliament for what was seen as an employer-centric legislation that also clubbed journalists amidst a 400 million labour force. The new labour codes, believe critics are set to give immense powers to establishments to hire and fire employees, and reduce the power and clout of trade unions, among many other issues.
