DATA COLLECTION ABROAD

 

 

 

 

 

The Council provides financial assistance to social scientists who wish to go abroad in connection with their research work for purposes of Data Collection or for consulting Archival Material. For financial reasons, the number of scholars thus assisted has been generally limited to four in any financial year. The applications are received in January / February of each calendar year.

 

 

 

 

 

Applications should be submitted in the Prescribed Format (See Annexure IV). Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

Note  :  Applicants belonging to “SC” “ST” or "OBC" category must enclosed a copy of their Category Certificate issued by the Competent Authority.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

(a)

Two copies of detailed Research Proposals indicating the problem to be studied, framework, hypotheses, methodology as well as identification of gaps in existing research work which has necessitated the trip abroad. The scholar must also provide a list of documents to be referred to, libraries to be visited etc;

 

 

 

 

 

 

(b)

Two copies of the scholar's C. V.

 

 

 

 

 

 

(c)

A copy of the Letter from libraries/institutes concerned, indicating that they possess the required documents. The same would be made available to the scholar as and when he or she visits them;

 

 

 

 

 

 

(d)

In case field work is involved, the scholar must obtain permission from the proper authorities in the country concerned, before his/her departure and submit a copy of such communication to the ICSSR;

 

 

 

 

 

 

(e)

Certificate of Proficiency in the language of the native country, should be provided (especially in countries where documents are not available in English and where English is not usually understood) or any alternative strategy that the scholar has in mind.

 

 

 (f)

 Recommendation letter from Supervisor (for Ph.D students) justifying the need for visit of that  country for data collection.

 

 

General Conditions

 

 

 

 

i.

The applications should be sent duly forwarded by the Registrar of the University (for Ph.D. students) and by the Affiliating Institute (for research projects).  

The visit should not be for more than three months and the total expenditure involved (airfare, maintenance, contingency) should not normally exceed Rs. two lakh.

 

 

 

 

 

ii.

The visit approved during any financial year will not be kept in abeyance for the next financial year. The departure of the scholar must take place before 31st March of the respective financial year. In case, a scholar cannot make use of the assistance approved, for one reason or the other, he or she will have to apply afresh during the next financial year.

 

 

iii.

The funds will be released only after the government has approved the visit, if necessary.

 

 

iv.

Any unspent money in foreign exchange must be refunded to the Council, if the scholar returns early for any reason.

 

 

v.

On return, the scholar will submit a detailed report on the work done and complete account of the money spent other than per diem.

 

 

vi

Assistance is available to a scholar not more than twice, in his lifetime.

 

 

vii

The applications received from the scholar will be referred to the Experts Committee for evaluation.

 

 

viii.

Scholars,exceeding the age of 60 years, will not ordinarily be considered.
